Howard: Just rediscovered this post of yours this AM,...while going thru some of my older Msgs.. As to you wondering about slaves brought over with _lighter color_, _higher cheekbones_, and _straighter hair_,....you bet there were,...and a lot of them. I went back to read certain passages in (Sir) Hugh Thomas' _The_Slave_Trade_,..whrer he mentioned that certain plantation owners & slaveholders,...(esp. in Brasil & other parts of So. America),...insisted that slavetraders NOT offer "merchandise" of "light color reddish/brown slaves",...because they were too hard to "break";....and seemto cause/forment 'unrest' among many newly arrived slaves,...causing "disciplenary problems" and excess time taken up with punishment vis-a-vis "productiveness". -- Personal research into the Fulani/Fula ethno-group could give you some idea of just what these particular slaveholders may have been worried about. --- In fact one particular slave uprising in Brasil (The Male Revolt,..out of Bahia),...was traced back to certain pre-Maafa converted Moslem slaves out of such a resourse. ---- In Constant Celebration of Curiousity: M.J.
