Re: Haplogroup I (M170)
In Response To: Haplogroup I (M170) ()

Hi. I'm also belong to Haplogroup I and was able to trace my grandfather's father's grandfather (mulatto) back to a plantation owner by the name of James Northfleet Smith of Scotland Neck, North Carolina (Halifax County) based on the 1860 census.

I've also been able to purchase a book titled: "The Smith's of Scotland Neck." who originally came from the town of Essex, England in the 1700s to Scotland Neck, North Carloina via Surry, Virgina.

I'm now trying to determine my grandfather's father's grandfather
mother's name and I can only assume that the slave owner James Northfleet Smith was his father- which would explain why my DNA test results classify me under Haplogroup I (M170).

Regards,

Jim
