Re: HAPLOGROUP I (M170)
In Response To: Re: Haplogroup I (M170) ()
The question regarding FTDNA and Its Relationship to National Genographic Project; FTDNA is doing all the testing for the NGP at the University of Arizona. Regarding the M170 designation; This is the marker for Haplogroup I, This marker shows on the NGP personal page along with the Haplogroup. FTDNA's personal page will show P19+ this is the designation of the particular Lab test used to confirm Haplogroup I,(FTDNA assumes that P19+ and M170 are equivalent; That is, If you test P19+ you must be M170 positive. There is disagreement among the Haplogroup I community regarding this). Also the Haplogroup I description from FTDNA is just a broad one, there are subclades of this Haplogroup; about ten different possible ancestry lines that one can be derived from. I posted a Url below that provides info regarding Haplogroup I and its varieties and their ancestral descriptions and much more. I hope this info will be of some use. Happy Thanksgiving.
