I am the Turrentine Archivist and help anyone with a Turrentine connection with there family searches. A descendant of Gideon and Deliah Murphy, slaves of John Murphy and Cassandra Harpool tested the mtdna line and the result was Haplogroup L3b1a6, suggesting Gambia.
John Murphy and Cassandra Harpool were married 13 June 1837 in Hempstead County, Arkansas. (Gideon and Delliah's daughter, Lively Murphy, married Gilbert Turrentine lived in Sevier County, Arkansas.) John Murphy's will stated that 4 of the slaves he owned were "the servants of my late wife Cassandra" and states that they were not to be sold, but freed once his son had been raised. The other 2 slaves were Hardy and Matilda. (Although, they were not sold upon his death, it appears they were eventually freed by the Civil War, not his will.) atDNA confirms matches with the descendants of other Harpool slaves.
