Re: L3d Haplogroup
In Response To: L3d Haplogroup ()

Hi Alice,

I am also L3d (L3d1-5). Did you test at 23andme? If so, a possible reason for the non-responses may be because haplogroups don't hold as much meaning when taking an autosomal test (like 23andme or ancestrydna) versus when taking a Mitochondrial dna test (like the one at Ftdna or Ancestry's old test).

For autosomal dna tests, matches are not based on having the same haplogroups and most (if not all) of the people in your Dna Relatives list will have a haplogroup that is different from yours. While having the same haplogroup as another person does mean you are related, it is NOT usually within a genealogical timeframe (5-10 generations) UNLESS they also share dna with you on the chromosomes. Most of the folks in your Dna Relatives list are likely more closely related to you than any random person who has the same haplogroup as you. Hope that helps.
