Thanks for writing, yes, I saw the show. My family has participated in the WEST DNA Project. We have White relatives in other part of the USA who matched 25 markers out of 25. My White ancestors lived between my g grandfather and his brother. Oral information is that we are related. But the younger White West in my county will not talk us or help me at all. Some of my new found cousins live in LA>AR,SC>TN>MS>TX,LA>MS will talk to and help us (meaning the one who are working on this project). At the present time we are trying to find the connection and we think that the connection between the ancestors could be a nephew, uncle or brother.
By the way, my g grandfather was a Mulatto slave of the West Ancestors. We are just trying to find our roots and that's it. We don't want nothing more. My g grandmother was a Barefoot and free Mulatto, her mother was white but the girls father was Black.
I tried contacting one or two persons who was working the West family in NC and one told me to go to the the Archives in Raleigh, NC and look it up myself. I found her WEBSITE on Rootsweb.com. Everyone else in the family are the same way. Slavery can not he hidden, because it did happen.
I have White Barefoot relatives who gave me information willingly and even told me this is public information. The Barefoots wrote a book and put my gr grandmother's family in it.
Both families migrated from VA to Johnston,Sampson counties and then move to other counties, too. Most slave owner leave something in the Will, even if the slaves are being given the family members. I found a Will that one of the son's and his wife deeded some land to my g grandfather and his brother.
What do you suggest I do to get more information on the West family. Being White what would you suggest?
What surnames are you looking for? You mentionee that you were at a brick wall.
Sorry to be long.
Thanks again for writing me.
