Debra,
Yes..I didn't test with NatGeo, but some of my male family members did or we transferred their results from their STR tests there. Geno 2 is a different type of test and you will need a new kit. I have read on the Y I DNA mailing list there may be some problems with either viewing or transferrring your results to FTDNA or interfacing with FTDNA. I can't remember because I don't plan to do this test now not based on what I've read. I also read there were some testing issues. This was on the Y I DNA mailing list as well as a 23andMe forum. IMHO is that the purpose of this new test is to find new SNPs. NatGeo has never done anything like autosomal testing, just STR testing and they were way behind in that market. At the moment, since I have my raw data from both 23andMe and FamilyFinder, that is all that I need to use in the various free apps that have been developed. In fact, FTDNA is doing a new build which seems very similar to the new build that was released by 23andMe several months ago. The both use the same V3 software which 23andMe used first. Both weht from or are going from build 36 to build 37. When comparing my FamilyFinder results to my 23andMe results they are virtually the same. I think Geno 2 is going to help NatGeo and FTDNA find new SNPS the distinguish different subclades within various haplogroups more than it will add to your information sort of like the Walk Thru the Y projects at FTDNA.
