Thanks for you reply. In this case I think it is an attempt to connect to a popular & famous surnamed person by using a matching autosomal DNA test result, such as 23andme Relative Finder, FTDNA Family Finder and/or other autosomal DNA testing companies.

My understanding of the cousin relationship thru DNA testing in locating the Most Recent Common Ancestor(s) MRCA is in the degree of that relationship ... 1st, 2nd. 3rd, 4th cousin etc. which is determined by the "composition" of a person's DNA and not their surname.

Here, I think the question is. Are they related thru that surname, or an individual with that surname? ..... the daughter's maiden name. She and the daughter are clearly 4th cousins, but determined to be thru the daughter's maternal DNA lineage and not her paternal (surnamed) lineage.
