Personally, I like FTDNA for lineage reasearch. However, you should perpare for many years of research. If you truly are of African descent you might learn only a little compared to someone of a European lineage because there is lesser reaserch. It is very difficult to pinpoint a African lineage origins. African YDNA Haplogroups (beside E1b1b) are only begining to be tested properly. I'm currently leading a project to study variances in E1b1a. The African mtDNA haplogroups are extremely varried and many have broad geographical ranges. Fewer full scan African mtDNA sequences exist, so there is less variance to compare.
