3rd & 4th Cousins Found

Hi Afrigeneas Family,

I've been a member of 23andme for about three years now along with my mother and grandmother. Within the past month I have made 3 genealogical connections thanks to Relative finder and my paper trail.

I was contacted one day by a cousin whom I call "D.T." who informed me that he wanted to share genomes and that we had a surname in common which was Perkins. I informed him that my great-grandmother Roberta (Perkins) Pipkins was the daughter of Mandy Golden and an unknown Perkins man whom I suspected was named James or Jim [I couldn't locate him after 1900].

All of Mandy's children had different father's but it was stated they all took their respective father's surnames. D.T. stated that his Great Great-grandfather was named James Perkins who married a Cammie Kelly and that the family resided in Oklahoma.

We were able to determine that James was was our 2nd great-grandfather and our great-grandmother's Roxanna and Roberta were half-siblings. 23andMe predicted that we were 3rd cousins and it turned out to be true. D.T. is a 2nd cousin 1 x removed with my mother.

Excited that I had finally connected with a cousin on 23andme I decided to take a look at the profile of a cousin whom I contacted before on the site named "T.C." . 23andme predicted us to be 4th cousins and one of the places she listed on her profile was Louisiana. Both my mother and I matched her so I knew she was related on my grandfather's side of the family.

When she gave me the surnames of her family from Louisiana I knew those surnames were Creole and that my grandfather did not have any relatives with those particular surnames. She recently added to her profile under family locations: Elysian Fields, Texas.

I knew then she was definitely closely related and sent her a message asking her about her Texas ancestors. Using the surnames she gave me I was able to trace her ancestry back to Caroline Golden Wright the daughter of Nelson and Agnes Golden [who lived in Panola County, TX which neighbors Elysian Fields, Harrison Co., TX].

Nelson and Agnes are my 4th great-grandparents and their son James Golden was my 3rd great-grandfather making him and Caroline siblings. T.C. and my mother are 4th cousins and she and I are 4th cousins 1x removed. James Golden is the father of Mandy Golden and grandfather of Roberta (Perkins) Pipkins.
-------------

A new cousin "C.P." popped up on R. Finder and he matches D.T., my mother, and me. 23andme predicts that he and I are 4th cousins, but he doesn't know much about his father's [Perkins] side of the family. His Y-dna Haplogroup confirms what I have long suspected that the Perkin's line has a White forebear. Most of the Perkins were listed as Mulatto on the Census. All Perkins in Panola County, Texas descend from Fannie Perkins [b. 1808, NC].
