We took the test through FTDNA. My brother first took the Y-DNA, then Family Finder (mtDNA) using the same sample. We found out that through L3d that our ancestors came from West Africa mostly. These are the countries in Africa that we are associated with:
Algeria, Gibon (Bantu), Cameroon, Sierra Leonne and Ethiopia.

Now I have been in contact with matches from Barbados, Grenada, Mexico, Alabama (descendants moved to Michigan). I find some of the matches will not respond at all. I am curious at to why?

The person from Barbados has the same Y-DNA (Scot-Irish) and mtDNA (L3d) as I do. She has the Walker surnames in her family.
My paternal surnames are: West/Williams; maternal sunames are: Hobbs/Mclamb. I don't have exact surnames from Africa yet. I was chatting with a person from Sierra Leone and she told me that some of the people in her country do have American names.
