I misspoke, and almost got it wrong again... I should have said "Ancestor Tree" and that should be an option in your software. Your ancestor tree will show all of your direct ancestors that are included in your software, depending on how many generations you choose to display. That means no cousins, no aunts and uncles.

Once you find a prospect, then run a Descendant tree for that individual to identify living test candidates.

For mtDNA, the test candidate can be male or female, BUT there must be an unbroken female to female line back from that person. I mentioned my aunt's 4 children. She has 2 daughters, 2 sons. All four inherited her mtDNA so I could test any of them. But only her daughters pass it on, so in the next generation only her daughters' children would have the same mtDNA as my grandmother.
