>Just learned of (99.4%) >maternal Bubi and (100%) >paternal Yoruba ancestry. Hello, Bubi cousin.... My paternal lineage is Bubi Just to clarify what you have learned and to make sure you tell your story correctly:
What the reports say is that your mtDNA is a 99.4% match to the Bubi people, and your Y-dna is a 100% match to the Yoruba people. Your mtDNA is 2% or less of your ancestry. Same thing with the Y-dna. So together they are about 4% of your ancestry, and represent just 2 people in each generation of your ancestors going back through time. Not to forget, the number of ancestors doubles with each generation you go back in time. Both of your parents are represented, yes, but only 2 of your 4 grandparents. Only 2 of your 8 great-grandparents, 2 of your 16 great-great-grandparents, etc. The percentage of your ancestry represented by these two tests keeps dropping as you go back through the generations. That does not take away from the importance of what you've learned, but make sure you tell the story correctly. And yes, knowing that 2% or 4% is absolutely better than the 0% you knew before.
