Re: Testing Paternal Aunt's DNA

Yes, assuming your father and his sister had the same mother, your aunt's mtDNA results will apply for your paternal grandmother as well.

Did your father or grandfather have brothers? If so, and if they had male descendants, that's another possibility.

>My father and aunt's maternal grandmother was

Maybe. If their maternal grandmother was Chinese (and her mother Chinese, and her mother Chinese, etc.) that could show up in the mtDNA. Now if she was half-Chinese, that depends on whether the Chinese ancestry is maternal or paternal. If your aunt's maternal grandfather was the one who was Chinese, it will not show up in your aunt's mtDNA test.

>My father and aunt's father was English,Black and
>Indian. Will any of his DNA show up in her DNA
>sample? Maybe the multi-ethnic test?

Yes you need the 3rd type of test, the one that says you are x% of this and y% of that, but doesn't tell a location or what ancestor contributed the various ancestries.

>I am anxious to get started immediately, given my

African Ancestry may connect you to a group of living people by identifying a population group that matches your DNA. If that is what you want, I definitely recommend African Ancestry.

Check out Familytreedna.com also, but they don't give you a current populaton group to identify with.
