Re: DNA Databases
In Response To: Re: DNA Databases ()
My autosomal DNA test says I am 18% European and 82% sub-Saharan African. But, none of the European ancestry is reflected in the Y-chromosome or mtDNA for which I have results.
Based on what you've told me, your results look to be spot-on. One person from our genealogy society told us that her oral history said her great-grandmother was a mail-order bride from Europe, but she as confused as you about the results of her DNA test which said "European."
Are your parents or their siblings living? Consider cousins to test to expand what you've learned of your genetic ancestry. I've tested two first cousins and a first cousin once removed, along with my own test, to get 4 lineages, one for each of my 4 grandparents, tho I am still waiting for one result.
Now I'm just getting curious, and thinking of another line of relatives to test. They are descended female to female from one of my great-great-grandmothers, my mother's father's mother's mother. At least I know more-distant relatives on my mother's side. I don't know anyone else to test on my father's side. Yet.
