Re: DNA Databases

According to African Ancestry, about 30% of African-American men they've tested have a European Y-chromosome. About 5% of African Americans have a European mtDNA. This is just a reflection of the sexual dynamics of slavery, white men producing African American babies with African women.
And remember that as you go back through the generations, the number of ancestors you have doubles with each generation. How many DIRECT ancestors do you have if you go back 10 generations? 1,024. These are not aunts and uncles, but DIRECT ancestors. Yet your test results are representative of just two of that 1,024. ALL of your other 1,022 ancestors could be 100% African and your two tests would still reflect only European ancestry, because they tell you only a tiny portion of your ancestry.
And you cannot tell by what a person looks like. Dr. Kittles at African Ancestry is a dark-brown skinned black man who has a European Y-chromosome. There is another test which can give you the percentages of four ethnic groups you have: (1) Sub-saharan African (2) Asian (3) European (4) Native American, but will not tell you where any of this came from, not even from which of your ancestors.
