Re: East Asian Ancestry
In Response To: East Asian Ancestry ()

Hi Lisa,
the reason you appear to have so much far eastern DNA is because of the first inhabitants of Madagascar. Humans didn't arrive in Madagascar until about 2000 years ago, and they didn't come from Africa as you might expect. In fact the first people to reach Madagascar were from the far east! Malagasy is the native language of Madagascar and is not related to any african languages, however it does have relatives in Indonesia and the Phillipines, but the closest relative (sharing 90% of it's basic structural words) is found in Southern Borneo. This added to layers of east african and european settlers and a long contact with the arab world makes for a complex genetic history! Added to this the island was run by pirates from all over the world (including the carribean) during the 1700s, perhaps this is where your native american dna came from? Hope I've answered a few questions for you,
graham
