That's how mine was found. I was always anemic, but I felt fine. I was prescibed iron supplements. I didn't feel any better or any worse by taking them. The Hematologist thought there may be something more going on, so he decided to investigate further. I have found some of my ancestors through ancestry.com. I did note that my grandfather's line may come from a group in Portugal. His surname is Saures (spelled Sawres in census records) and seems to be similar to the name Soares in that country. My grandmother said he was mixed with something but she wasn't sure what. She always thought it was Cuban. We're still not sure if there's any connection, but it would be interesting to find out. I did find some interesting information on the racemixing in Iberia and the distinct haplogroups of that region. I've enclosed the link in this post.
