Re: DNA/Beta Thalassemia
In Response To: Re: DNA/Beta Thalassemia ()

My son was found to be a carrier of Alpha Thalassemia and I found it to be as you said with the Beta Thalassemia, to be high among those of Middle Eastern descent. I recently updated with DNA Tribes and have a high number for North India, which I had before, but now I'm finding it in my Top 20 as well as high on the Global resolution. Sub-Saharan African is the highest, of course then Indian, then Asia Minor, Timorese, Mediterranean then NW Euro, Eastern Euro, Finno-Ugrian (Whatever that is! Hahaha! It sounds funny!) and a bunch of other stuff. Anything with a score of 1 or more is significant. All of these are between 2 and 13-Indian, with SSA being 111. Perhaps there is a link between African and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean admixture. Then too, I don't know how alike or different Alpha Thalassemia and Beta Thalassemia are.
