Re: Contact With Persons Matching Your Dna Results

Hi,

I just happened upon this message thread and want to comment about my mtDNA match. I tested with FamilyTreeDNA and was given the name of a genetic match (HRV-1). Initially I emailed her and received a response from her as to how we are related. Well, I don't know :)

We shared geological information. I learned that she was born in Haiti and that she was 82 years old. She had not researched her African lines much, however she was able to give me some potentially valuable information about the line that we share. Her family is no longer African (in physical appearance)but she does know about the African ancestors and re-calls her great grandmother who was the child of someone of note in the Dominican Republic. I was able to find a photo of him online, that was great. She was very cordial and wants me to meet family she has in this area of the country. I am not ready for that yet but it was a nice gesture on her part I thought. Her testing fee's were paid for by a relative of her's and we are planning to have the HRV-2 results to see if we are still a perfect match. I do hope so because even though I do not share her European lines, documentation is available for my (our) African line. Documentation that I might not otherwise have had. She has an incredible memory and weaves stories of her ancestors lives, of slavery in New Orleans, of Haiti and corruption in governments (we speak on the telephone, she is in the USA). Just knowing that I might have these connections is expanding my view of the world.

What I do for her is help her with research of her other lines and she expresses her gratitude for that. All and all I do feel like she is family, I suppose because she said it so sweetly the first time we spoke on the telephone and also because the genes connected what I would never have been able to connect on my own. I look forward to one day meeting her.

My numbers are 16278T, 16294T, 16309G, 16368C, 16390A, 16519C
If anyone can give me some insight on those it would be greatly appreciated.

Glory
