Re: The L3 Mystery
In Response To: Re: The L3 Mystery ()
I'm having the same problem. My gg-grandma's name was Sidney (yes Sidney) Bannister. However, Bannister was her maiden name. The Bannisters were all free people of color in Virginia, but I don't think Sidney was because she couldn't read or write, while all of the Bannisters going clear back to 1830 are listed as being able to do so. So I have no maiden name, no owners, no nothing! I'm also stumped as to how she married a free man of color. I need to do more research as to how that happened. Then again, I'm assuming she was a slave, perhaps she wasn't. I just thought so because of not being able to read or write.......in my mind that meant no access to books or learning/schooling time. I'm really on the verge of hiring a professional geneaologist. Are their any on this board??? I have exhausted all the information on Ancestry.com and have hit a gigantic brick wall! Please let me know! I'm particularly interested in Sidney Bannister and her line because this is my mtdna line. Thanks for any and all responses!!
