Three interrelated events prompted my decision to have my DNA tested: Family stories of a great-great maternal grandfather who lived to be 106 and recalled being sold into slavery; 30 years of visiting varous African countries searching for people who "looked like me", and finally the article last spring in the Wall Street Journal with various resources on the important HOW to be tested.

To answer a question you posted earlier about my feelings upon learning my results: mixed. A sense of relief and a wave of sadness. Someone truly had stolen my Hausa grandfather. It made all of this a bit too real.
