Re: Who should I test?
In Response To: Who should I test? ()
(Question) On my mothers side, if I test myself, will it only give me the information of my mother-hortense, her mother-jessielee, her mother-rebecca, her mother-abbie. Am I correct with that understanding?
(Answer) Yes, that is correct.
(Question) On my mothers side, if I test my great uncle charlie (brother of my grandmother-jessielee) will his DNA provide information about his father-william, his father-charlieII, his father-charlieI or will it provide information about his mother AND his father?
(Answer) Your grandmother's brother can have both the mtDNA test and the Y-chromosome test.
The mtDNA will be the lineage of your grandmother's and your great-grandmother's. His Y-chromosome will be the lineage of his father (your great-grandfather).
(Question) Would it make better sense to test myself or should I test my Great Uncle?
(Answer) Since this is the brother of your mother's mother, you can get two tests from one person by testing your grandmother's brother as his mtDNA should be the same as your grandmother's, your mother's and yours.
(Question) On my fathers side, I dont have a brother and I dont have an Uncle. I do have a male cousin, whom is the great nephew of my father. My father and his grandmother were brother and sister. Can he be useful in any way?
(Answer) It depends. How is this grandson descended from your aunt, through a daughter or a son? Your aunt would have the same mtDNA as your father and would have passed it to her children. Her daughters would have passed it to their children. If he descended from a son of your aunt, testing him won't help you.
Are there any relatives to test to get your mother's father's lineage?
On your father's side, did your grandfather have siblings?
