For my grandfather, who is an E3a, I am following the same logic where if don't have any matches I won't gather more detail since there is nothing yet to match to. As more appear and I need further clarification I will expand my 12 marker to 25 and then to 37+.

I used this thinking for my Mom's father who is an R1b. Initially, the match was 46 at 12 markers. This then reduced to 2 at 24/25 and the same 2 at 35/37. These help to different among many R1bs and focus on the regions and sub-haplotypes.

For me, I will use this approach for the HRV1. Eventually, I may go to HRV2 to compare with Debra.
