DNA Affects Family Reunion
Hello Toot, I hope this post is appropriate for the DNA forum.
My family reunion, the Reed-Puryear Family Reunion, was this past weekend in Pensacola & Destin, FL. Back in October 2005, my family and I learned from DNA testing by African Ancestry, Inc. that we are 100% linked to the Mbundu people of Angola through the paternal lineage of my great-grandfather, Bill Reed. After the test, I was fortunate to meet someone here in Atlanta who is not only from Angola, but she is Mbundu.
She happily accepted the invitation to come to my family reunion and talk about our ancestral homeland and our ancestral "tribe". She was a hit!!! Her message of connectivity and also telling the family some facts about the Mbundu people really touched us all. We were all so in to her presentation, and because of her presence and her presentation, we felt more "in tune" on Who We Are, as it relates to our African heritage. In America, so often we are so consumed with the "mixtures" in our family tree that the predominant African heritage gets little attention.
For those who have tested with African Ancestry, Inc., and if you are able to find an African brotha or sista from that ethnic group, invite him to the family reunion! Trust me...that person's presence will be POWERFUL!!!
Thanks for allowing me to share that.
