Re: DNA Testing

Well, I guess I'm the minority here, (no pun intended) Tee Hee! I love this stuff!! I'm having a blast finding out more about myself than I ever would have known. I've tested with DNA Tribes and with Natl. Geo. (I'm still waiting on my results from them.) I realized though, that all of these companies are only as good as their current populations database, which of course, can drastically skew the results. However, everything I've found thus far has supported Oral and documented history as well as opened new doors to information I would not have had. Also, it's good to really research the companies so that we're not duplicating our efforts. For example, Ancestry by DNA gives essentially the same info as DNA Tribes, except that DNA Tribes has 12 groupings as opposed to only 4! You can still calculate your percentages of ancestry if that's what you're wanting, and/or you can have some idea of exact areas or Ethnic group affiliations, as well as find out which present day populations you have a strong genetic similarity with. I am approximately 63.8% Sub-Saharan African, 21.2% Asian (South and East), and 15% European. That I figured, but I wouldn't have thought so much Asian as much as Native American. (But sometimes NA shows up with Asian groups because the NA is documented.) All of top matches show for South African groups except like 5........I would NEVER in a million years have known this! I guess I'm somewhat of an anthropological sleuth because I love uncovering each layer of the mystery of myself! It's a lot of fun!! I'm also enjoying reading about everyone else's journeys too! It's exciting as I read about what others are discovering about their heritages! I'm especially appreciative to learn more about Africa and my lineages there! This DNA testing for me has been a wonderful experience overall.
