What about a West Indian connection? Many African Americans with family ties in the Caribbean Basian --- places like Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana etc -- could very easily have East Indian admixtures in their gene pools.
As in East Africa in the 1800s --- in Kenya, Tanzania,Uganda, and South Africa-- British colonialists brought large numbers of East Indian workers into the Caribbean Islands as laborers. East Indian and African admixture in these Caribbean islands is not at all uncommon, and descendants of these people are here in this country.
