Testing on Your Own
For those of you who completed the DNA Tribes test, you may also want to try the OmniPop spreadsheet. You can download it from the DNAFingerprint website for free and it will display a worldmap with your most likely matches and you can consider by yourself in which region you have your best fit.
According to Thomas Krahn at DNA Fingerprint, the OmniPop spreadsheet is a collection of published population frequencies from scientific journals put together by Brian Burritt. You can follow every step of the calculation if you just know a
The result only tells you, where your average ancestor most likely comes from. "Average" in this case means, that if your mother comes from China and your father comes from South Africa, your might end up with a best hit in India, because India is right in the middle of the two countries of origin. You will not be able to trace a single line with autosomal markers like it is possible
I entered my Autosomal STR Profile numbers into the appropriate green cells on the spreadsheet, and came up with the following results:
1) Andalusians (Spain) (6): 4.25E+09
ALMOST, the same as what I received from DNA tribes. IT was interesting and fun to try out on my own.
If you highlight and paste the above link, it should bring you to a Download search engine on the DNA Fingerprint website, just type in "Omnipop" and you should get to the download. I simply did a save as, and I then had my own copy to keep.
