Aha, I did not know this about Dr. Gates. I haven't taken the MtDNA test yet - I was going to take the Ancestry by DNA test first, and then take the mtDNA via FTDNA or NG. I still don't know how it all works. Do these results mean that these genes are the ones that are the strongest and that is why they show up rather than the african genes? I had always thought that the african genes were more dominant - at least that's what they love to tell us. Anyway, dominent or not, as I said in a previous post - it's pretty obvious that I'm african american. I have been asked in the past if I'm brazilian or whether I have family from brazil, so I guess I do look multicultural - but I would be shocked if anyone ever said they couldn't tell what I was. Perhaps it is my mother, in which case I suppose it's good that I do the ancestry by dna first, because otherwise, if I do decide to go with AA it might all be for nothing.
