Sounds like this is good for finding potential relatives. I will consider this for future research, as I am always interested in connecting with potential relatives via my African/African-American family lineages.
To me, it appears that FamilyTree DNA and African Ancestry use two different methodologies. If I am not comprehending this incorrectly, FTDNA seems to be beneficial to those who seek to have more markers analyzed in an effort to determine ancestry through communication with others with the same markers via their database your results are placed into. As for African Ancestry, although 9 markers are tested, which are sufficient in pinpointing an African ethnic group, AA is beneficial to those who want specificity concerning the African Ancestry of family lines they know that originated from Africa. Both have their own valuable purposes, so I really can not understand why some folk try to downplay or discredit the other. It appears to me that combining the services of FamilyTree DNA and African Ancestry, you can find potential relatives AND find out specific African connections.
It all depends on what the individual wants to know.
