Re: DNA Tribes

Hello James & Mel,
I've been following your "conversation" with great interest. May I interject my experiences and thoughts?
I have a cousin who tested (Y-DNA) with AA threee years ago, his result came back as Spanish & Portugese ancestry. I am a grandson through this line, but thru my mother, so I couldn't use his result for my Y-DNA by AA.
My genealogical research indicated a Euro great-grandfather (direct line) and a possible Euro great-great-great grandmother (again direct line). So I tested Y & mtDNA with FamilyTreeDNA, 25 marker & HVR1/HVR2 plus, for less tha $300.00 combined. They both came back with results showing "current" Euro Haplogroups (H & I). Thus helping to confirm my genealogical findings.
Now recognizing that thes tests revealed only two of my many family lines I wanted to know more and also to find my African ancestry. Following "Toots" advice I tested with AncestryByDNA for their 2.5 Biographical Analysis which gave Ethnic %'s...Euro, Sub-Saharan African, Native American & Asian, with NO tribal or clan affiliations.
I have recieved and I am continually recieving notices of "hits" through the FamilyTreeDNA matching processes, but have only responded to those who have contacted me. I am continuing to research the Euro background genealogically, but have no interest, at the moment, to further the DNA aspects of those lines.
My BGA percentages were 49% Euro, 48% Sub-Saharan African & 3% Native American. I'm hoping that soon there will be testing available to more clearly define each ethnic group in my background, particularly the AA & NA.
Thanks for letting me "nosey" into your conversation and my best wishes to the both you. Your individual points are well presented.
