GOFF Surname DNA Study
Roy Lockhart and I wrote The Four Goff Brothers of Western Virginia (2003) about the lives of James Goff (1735-1834), John Turton Goff (?-1803), Thomas Goff (1747-1824) and Salathiel Goff (c1748-1791). These four men pushed westward into what is now WV and KY in the 1770s. Two of the brothers, Thomas Goff and Salathiel Goff, owned slaves who most likely came from the estate of their father-in-law, John Gray of Calvert Co., MD. In writing the book, particular attention was given to include whatever details on slaves were available in the records. Twenty-one persons are included in the book index under the heading "Slaves." For details of these names, please see the book index at the link provided below.
I have started a GOFF Surname DNA Study. To date, through Y-chromosome testing, we have identified five separate GOFF families. If you would like to join this study, please follow the attached link to the website for the GOFF Surname DNA Study. Thanks,
