I am in the midst of studying similar confusing results for my cousin from a different Company. Her haplogroup is L3, "matching sequences reported in Ethiopia." But the time frame "may be" 50,000 years ago!! The results further say that her sequence belongs to the L3d subgroup which "is widespread throughout Africa and has its highest frequency in West Africa." I too find that confusing, but think that the 50,000 years ago time frame may explain this West/East Africa confusion. My interpretation is that it originated out of Ethiopia 50,000 years ago, but is now found all over Africa.... so basically that tells me nothing.
