Re: DNA Tribes
In Response To: DNA Tribes ()
African Ancestry, Inc. will test your mtDNA to see if it matches one of many ethnic groups in West/West-Central Africa. However, if you are seeking a more in-depth analysis of all of your maternal ancestry, then they would not be the company. It solely depends on what information you are seeking.
Three lines of my family were tested through African Ancestry, and my family and I are extremely pleased with the results! All three lines were 100% identical to lineages among the Fulani, Mbundu, and Akan people of Cameroon, Angola, and Ghana, respectively.
As far as my previous comment, I understandably would have been shocked and concerned as you are. I really did not mean to be facetious in my response; nevertheless, I just could not understand why no African ancestry would have been found? Maybe DNA Tribes only looks at one specific lineage, through your mtDNA, and that line happens to descend from someone who is not African??? I really don't know, nor am I fully aware of how DNA Tribes works. But like someone else suggested, you should have your mtDNA tested with another DNA company. If I am not mistaken, wouldn't the continental analysis give you a long list of continents where your DNA is presently found? Would that list answer the question, "Where exactly in Africa could some of my ancestors have come from?" Just a thought....
Good Luck In Your DNA Quests!
