Re: Surname Projects
In Response To: Re: Surname Projects ()
Different projects have begun with different providers. Since not all providers test the exact same markers (although there is a core of about 12 markers that all of them test), some projects have yet to begin accepting test from other providers.
The projects I run accept anyone from anyone test provider, simply email me with your results listed by DYS#, your direct lineage as far back as you have it documented, and full contact information (name, address, phone, email). I accept both Patrician and Matrician, as long as the surname (or what might be a variant) in my Surname Project appears somewhere in the lineage.
For other projects, you should try contacting the Project Administrator and ask them to consider amending their policy regarding accepting tests from other providers. First, take a look at their project website to see if there are results similar to yours -- this could be a strong argument for admitting you. For some projects, the use of a website from Family Tree may be limiting them, as their test results are automatically uploaded from their FTDNA kits to the website, which gives them no way to enter results from other providers. I don't have this problem, as my websites are not on the FTDNA site (well, one is for the moment, but I am moving it to a place without this constraint.)
Another option is to enter your results in one (or more) of the public databases. www.ysearch.org takes data from any testing company. The only caution here is that you need to check with your testing provider to see if there are any markers whose value will need to be adjusted due to nomenclature issues (this may sound like gobbledygook to you, but your provider will understand it!).
I hope this has been helpful!
