It is only the mtDNA and Y-dna that are inherited absolutely along a female (mtDNA) or male (Y-dna) line. Your autosomal dna comes from everybody who's a direct line ancestor to you, on all sides.
If you know your dad has Native American ancestry, but don't know the source, it could be either a male OR a female ancestor on his side, or even both. Either one could show up in your autosomal dna and there is no way to determine the source without testing your parents, their parents, etc.
