The Y-chromosome and mtDNA represent about 1% of our total genetic makeup. On the other hand, the autosomal dna tests use "the rest" of your dna. I'm not clear on what "pedigree collapse" has to do with this. I am sure it happens anywhere there is, or has been in the past, a limited population group. So at some point, my great-great-grandpa is also my 3rd cousin, once removed, or something like that. How does that affect dna testing?
