Re: MOSS, Ruth Helen Sims
In Response To: MOSS, Ruth Helen Sims ()
"My mother, Ruth Helen Moss (married name) is 95 years young. Born Ruth Helen Sims, April 24, 1913 in Police Jury Ward 6, Caddo, Louisiana. She ask that ancestry search is done on her mother, Bettie Hunter of Louisiana and her family. I believe Bettie Hunter's father was John Hunter and mother Jennie Brittan.
Bettie Hunter Sims died when my mom was 11 months of age. Therefore, she never knew her mom and was raised by her father Marvin Sims and older siblings. Bettie Hunter married Marvin Sims in the State of Louisiana - Parish of Caddo in 1900. Please contact me regarding the cost to search her ancestry. This is something I would love to provide to my mom while she is here on earth. She cries alot about not knowing her mother and limited information that was past down. Your immediate assistance in this mater is greatly appreciated.
The Census records referenced in the previous posting were found on www.Ancestry.com and were for the years 1880, 1900 & 1920 years which covered your mother, with her father, step-mother and her siblings and what I believed to be Jennie (Brttian) Hunter along with her parents & siblings.
These records may be found on Census Microfilm at Ancestry,com and/or your local Latter Day Saints (LDS) Family History Center (FHC).
The cited sources are:
1900 ...... Census Microfilm LA T623_560: page 5A; ED 35
1920 ...... Census Microfilm LA T625_607;
For the other records requested ... Betty Hunter's Death Certificate can probably be obtained from the Parish Vital Records Dept. where she passed away.
The ethnicity for all as noted on the Census records:
1920 ... Marvin, Black (colored); Ruth, Mulatto
1900 .... Color/Race for all is listed as Black, Ethnicity as American
1880 .... Color/Race for All is Black
I can't explain the age differences between the marriage & census records. Just know that the ages on census records are notorious for their incorrectness/inconsistenicies and the age of women on marriage records also are often incorrectly stated, for whatever reasons.
Hope this information may be of help and leading you in the right direction.
