Hi Jay,

That's great. That size hook is the midsize and a good size for a beginner. It's the I size hook. If I ever run across the Bates, I'll surely let you know. Remember it's all about relaxing the tension of the hook and yarn. :)

Can't wait to hear about your first project. Oh, and always remember that when you get to the end to turn, always count your first stitch as your first stitch although it may not look like a whole stitch. Otherwise, that's how you end up with the scarf that keeps getting shorter and shorter as the rows continue.
