For me-- no effect, but I am sure it is because I'm a newbie.

What I find with yarn in particular, is that there is a whole range of choices, from inexpensive to pretty darned expensive. Because I'm just learning, really, I stick with inexpensive choices-- I can spend $3 to $5 on a hank to practice with and that's, of course, not bad at all.
