‘Stitching Across Alabama’
Museum of Art hosts ‘Stitching Across Alabama’
Special to The Times
This is the only statewide quilt competition in Alabama. GMA is hosting it for the second year.
Quilts will remain on display until Sept. 30.
Thirty-three quilts from some of the state’s most talented artists are in the competition and exhibit.
Art quilts, traditional quilts, hand-quilted wall hangings and other quilted forms are included.
Some unique features of the show are an art jacket — intended to be worn — by Lura Campbell of Helena and quilt vases by Kristin Bloodworth of Homewood.
The Gadsden Quilters Guild is represented by Alta Williams’ “Floral Fantasy,”
Gary Batson’s “Starbursts” and Mariam Thompson’s “Morning Glory.”
Master quilt maker Alpha Buford of Anniston has entered three quilts.
Prizes will be awarded, and there is an award honoring Calvin and Waukesha Sammons, who were instrumental in helping the museum with last year’s competition.
