African American cemetery with some surprises

I have been doing some research on an old African-American cemetery. Originally it was called "The Colored Cemetery". Over 90% of this cemetery is black, but it was thought that the entire cemetery was until we found through records that 8 of the graves belong to white people. This is an extremely small # of people considering how many graves there are, but a large # considering we didn't know. Why would white people be buried in a "colored" cemetery? This was not known as a segregated cemetery. Any knowledge would be appreciated. Please e-mail me directly.
Thank You,
Amy
