Brown Chapel AME Church

My cousin and I came across this abandoned cemetery about 1 year ago and have not been able to find out much about it. According to a former 85-year old former member, the Brown Chapel AME Church was struck by lightning sometime in 1950 and burned down to the ground as a result. The members did not rebuild the church and joined other nearby parishes. The cemetery was lasted used in 1962 is now abandoned and very well hidden off Lakeview River Road. The graves include former slaves and the last person buried was Ruby Lee (1888-1962). Any information that you could give on the history of this church would be very much appreciated. My cousin Dr. Alvin D. Jackson is the Director of the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center (www.willowhillheritage.org) in Bulloch County and is very much interested in preserving this cemetery for its historical value as well as the memory of those who are resting there. The Heritage Center is housed in a old Rosenwald School Building (112 years old) which was the last of the African American family schools that was started after the emancipation. Any information that you could give on the church and cemetery would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance with this request.
