Mt. Carmel Cemetery
Hello, my name is Petrey Ann Mack. from Memphis,Tennessee. My Great-grandmother's name was Edna Meacham Chinn, born in Memphis, Tennessee, buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. For quite sometime now, I have been searching for information on where my great-grandparents were buried. Finally I found an old obituary from my great-grandmothers furneral services. After finding out that she was buried at Mt. Carmel, and hearing about the condition of the Cemetery, I was very disappointed. My great-grandmother died in 1961, and in 1965 I moved to Los Angeles, Calif , to attend college, and was gone for twenty-five years. With all of my searching, yesterday was the first information I was able to find, and I said, hearing of the condition of the cemetery, and the crime inside to the grounds, trust me I am very upset. My great-grandmother, was the sister to Elzey Eugene Meacham, the founder and developer of Orange Mound, a very well known Black Community, in Memphis, Tennessee, with History that dates back to 1890. I have four grandkids, and spend lots of time telling them about their Black History, and would love to take them there, but because of the area and the crime, I can't risk their lives, but I will go now that I know where she is, and pray that my great-grandfather is also buried there.
