Re: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore MD/History

Well Tina I wish I could say things are better at Mt. Auburn, the fact is they aren't. The church that oversees Mt. Auburn "Sharp Street," has recently allowed the State Correctional Insitution to go out and clear away a tremendous amount of brush and weeds that have grown into trees, over the nearly 25+ years of neglect. Although greatful for their efforts, I must say the place is still in a shambles. I have not been able to locate my great-grandmother after all these years. I have gotten zero response from the church when I mailed them a letter back in 2007 requesting for information about her burial plot. I was 8 years old when she died and I had not visited again until I was in my early 20's. So I could not remember the exact location where she was laid to rest. You may have some luck by visiting the Encoh Pratt library in downtown Baltimore. They have copies of the records for most of the burials. I have teamed up with Lu Moorman of Preservation Alliance to attempt to get as many families of Mt. Auburn involved. I am the Chair of the family organization and would really like to get the word out about our the efforts of this organization and hopefully garner much more support. Good Luck and let me know what you find out. We really need the support of the families to really get this monumental task completed. Messages In This Thread
