When: Friday, November 14 at 1 p.m.

Cromwell Center is located in the Tompkinsville section of S.I. which is a few blocks from the S.I. Ferry terminal.

This informative meeting is scheduled to discuss the dire condition and fate of the Frederick Douglass Cemetery.

Guest speakers will be Richard Fishman, Director of the New York State
Division of Cemeteries and Arthur Friedman, Court Appointed Receiver for FD Cemetery.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Broken bricks and a ruptured wrought-iron fence mark the entrance to Frederick Douglass Memorial Park in Oakwood, a 17-acre cemetery named for the man who escaped slavery and went on to become a famous abolitionist, lecturer, writer and trusted adviser to Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.

Douglass is not buried at the Amboy Road cemetery, but thousands of African-Americans from Staten Island and around the city have been interred there over the last seven decades by families attracted to the name and reputation.
