Re: Research Update: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore
In Response To: Re: Research Update: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore ()
to all: During some research into our family history, I found that my wife's family had been in Baltimore for 5 generations dating back to the latter half of the 1800s. We have some of there names and guessed that the odds were they were buried in Mt Auburn. We went out there today with our children just for a look around and the conditions were shocking. There is no other way to describe when trees have grown up and through headstones and puddles have formed where it appears a grave area has shifted or collapsed. Is there any map or directory of people who have been buried at Mt. Auburn? In reading an earlier thread, someone said 40,000 plus souls are there. I am sure they would love to have the respect of being remembered by name even if it takes much much longer to clear the cemetery to a similar level of respect. If there is such a map, does anyone know where it can be gotten? Also, what are the current efforts to clean up the cemetery. My sons and I would like to be a part of the volunteers. Looking for Carringtons. Peace & Blessings, Earl Owens
