Re: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore MD/History
In Response To: Re: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore MD/History ()
A cousin of mine visited the cemetery today to locate the graves of our ancestors, but aren't they all our ancestors. He reported that it was a hopeless task without a map, and perhaps even with a map, because so many headstones were overturned,if not partially burried or embedded, and some overgrown by 5-foot high grass. A major problem may be structual, but that should not stop us from organizing periodic clean-up days, perhaps to coincide with the births or deaths of Frederick Douglass, Benjamin Banneker, Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall, and Ms. Morgan-MirKally (the proud inspiration for the "Freedom Rides" who only died this past week). After all, they were all Marylanders, but more importantly they were Freedom Fighters, and this legacy should not go unremembered, untaught, or not preserved or respected.
