Hi, I am a graduate student at Morgan State University in the City and Regional Planning Program. I saw your post to the website about Mt. Auburn University. The reason I am writing is to inform you that several schools at Morgan are presently involved in a study of the cemetery this semester. Our goal at the end of this semester is to provide Sharpe Street United Methodist Church with a tool to begin a process to bring the cemetery back to the condition it deserves. We will be conducting "action-research" for a voluntary association and it intended to contribute to neighborhood development, land mark and historic preservation, and tourism development. We will be working with facuilty, graduate and professional students will undertake data collection and analysis. This research and data collection will help us to provide Sharpe Street Church with a report and plan to be used in an attempt to gain interest from the public to revitilize the cemetery. If you are interested in speaking with the many groups involved from Morgan State Universtity, please contact me and I will speak with my professors and director to set something up. The more exposure MT. Auburn receives will help expose the very sad conditions. Unfortunately historically the cemetery has not had perpetual care and upkeep due to the plots being sold individually to families and it has been the responsibility of the owners of the plots to maintain them. As you could see when you drove by that has not happened. Recently, Mt. Auburn Cemetery inherited the cemetery and working very hard to remedy the conditions. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
