Hi Bill;
It is refreshing to see that someone here in Baltimore, wants to join the ever frustrating project to bring one of our most important african american cemeteries back to life.
I am sure you are aware of our struggle. The main problem is the terrible drainage problem at Mt. Auburn. One that is paramont to the preservation efforts as it effects the existing graves, markers and land. Without taking care of this issue first, all other efforts will be in vain. I have been working with a several contractors, one of whom is very promising, to put together an acceptable proposal to rectify this and some other "structural" issues at the site. Fundraising has been a tough road but hopefully, by mid to end Jan 07 we will be ready to present this to the oversight directors at the Sharp Street Church. Then the hard work will really begin. I will try to keep you updated.
